He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
