He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
