The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
