Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a high Garden. 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 therein uplifted couches 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
