The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
