A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
