And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 “So do you not ponder?” 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 They used to say: 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.” 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 and that, verily, Our hosts - they indeed - would [in the end] be victorious! 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 And turn thou aside from them for a season. 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 Peace be on the Messengers. 181 And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 182
