The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But save him who fears 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
