The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 And have you understood what the nightly arriver is? 2 (It is) the piercing star. 3 For every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man consider of what he was created; 5 He was created from spurting fluid, 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Surely He is able to bring him back 8 The Day that (all) things secret will be tested, 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 and the replenishing earth, 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 It is no pleasantry. 14 They are devising guile, 15 And I (too) am planning a plan. 16 Therefore respite the unbelievers, and delay them for a while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
