The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
