A company of the former peoples 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten - 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
