(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 And orchards and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
