Noah (Nooh)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
We sent Noah to his people, saying, 'Warn thy people, ere there come on them a painful chastisement.' 1 [Noah] said, "My people! I am but a plain warner to you, 2 "That ye should worship Allah, fear Him and obey me: 3 He will forgive you your sins and respite you till an appointed term. When the term of Allah arrives it cannot be deferred; if you but knew' 4 Noah said, "My Lord, I have been preaching to my people, night and day, 5 "But my call only increases (their) flight (from the Right). 6 "And every time I have called to them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they have (only) thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance. 7 "I preached to them aloud, in public. 8 and indeed, I spoke to them both publicly and in secret: 9 And I said: ask forgiveness of your Lord; verily He is ever Most Forgiving. 10 'He will send rain to you in abundance; 11 increase your wealth and sons; and grant you gardens and waterways. 12 What is the matter with you that you do not want the Greatness of Allah, 13 seeing that He has created [every one of] you in successive stages? 14 "'See ye not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another, 15 setting in them the moon as a light and the sun as a lantern? 16 Allah has caused you to grow out of the earth, 17 And afterward He maketh you return thereto, and He will bring you forth again, a (new) forthbringing. 18 "'And God has made the earth a wide expanse for you, 19 so that you may walk along its spacious paths?" 20
