He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
