The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
