۞ It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful." 189 But when He gives them a good one, they set up with Him associates in what He has given them; but high is Allah above what they associate (with Him). 190 Do they associate (with Allah in His divinity) those who can create nothing; rather, they are themselves created? 191 They have no power to help others. nor can they help themselves. 192 It makes no difference whether you call on them or remain silent. If you call them to the right path, they will not follow you. 193 Indeed, those you [polytheists] call upon besides Allah are servants like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful. 194 Have they feet with which they walk, or have they hands with which they hold, or have they eyes with which they see, or have they ears with which they hear? Say: Call your associates, then make a struggle (to prevail) against me and give me no respite. 195 My guardian is Allah Who has revealed the Book, and it is He Who protects the righteous. 196 They on whom ye call beside Him have no power to help you, nor can they help you, nor can they help themselves. 197 If you call them to the guidance they do not hear; and thou seest them looking at thee, unperceiving. 198 [O Prophet!] Show forgiveness, enjoin equity, and avoid the ignorant. 199 If an evil impulse from Satan provokes you, seek refuge with God; He is all hearing, and all knowing. 200 Lo! those who ward off (evil), when a glamour from the devil troubleth them, they do but remember (Allah's Guidance) and behold them seers! 201 And their brethren drag them on toward error, so they stop not short. 202 And if you do not bring them a miracle [according to their (i.e. Quraish-pagans') proposal], they say: "Why have you not brought it?" Say: "I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (the Quran) is nothing but evidences from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe." 203 When the Koran is recited, listen to it in silence in order that Allah has mercy upon you. 204 And remember your Lord by your tongue and within yourself, humbly and with fear without loudness in words in the mornings, and in the afternoons and be not of those who are neglectful. 205 Behold, those who are near unto thy Sustainer are never too proud to worship Him; and they extol His limitless glory, and prostrate themselves before Him [alone]. ۩ 206
