۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
