The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
