He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
