۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 And they used to say, "Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?" 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 "And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth captive!" 57 Then, are we not to die 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
