Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
