Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 therein every wise bidding 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
