He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
