He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
