He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 Olives and dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
