The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending. 25
