The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
