The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
