He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
