The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You will become three categories: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches; 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
