The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
