He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
