He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
