The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending. 25
