And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of a human being), then We told the angels, "Prostrate to Adam", and they prostrated, except Iblis (Satan), he refused to be of those who prostrate. 11 [And God] said: "What has kept thee from prostrating thyself when I commanded thee?" Answered [Iblis]: "I am better than he: Thou hast created me out of fire, whereas him Thou hast created out of clay." 12 [God] said: "Down with thee, then, from this [state] - for it is not meet for thee to show arrogance here! Go forth, then: verily, among the humiliated shalt thou be!" 13 [Satan] said, "Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 14 Allah said: verily thou art of the respited. 15 Satan said: 'Since You have led me astray, I shall surely sit in ambush for them on Your Straight Path. 16 And I shall come upon them from the front and behind, right and left; and You will not find among them many who would give thanks." 17 Allah said: go thou forth from hence, scorned, driven away. Whosoever of them followeth thee, I will of a surety fill Hell with you all. 18 To Adam He said, "You and your wife, dwell in the Garden and eat and drink there from wherever you wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you become wrongdoers." 19 But Satan made an evil suggestion to both of them that he might reveal to them their shame that had remained hidden from them. He said: 'Your Lord has forbidden you to approach this tree only to prevent you from becoming angels or immortals.' 20 Then he said to them on oath: "I am your sincere friend;" 21 So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?" 22 They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers." 23 He said, “Go down, one of you is a foe unto the other; and for a fixed time you shall stay on earth and feed in it.” 24 He said: "Therein you shall live, and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (i.e. resurrected)." 25
