The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
