The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 they see it as being far off; 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 stripping away his skin, 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
ColorfulQuran.com displays pages in one of three Arabic fonts. Each may appear with a one-third chance, adding more diversity to the already diverse colors. And the words remain unchanged forever. ColorfulQuran.com will have more beautiful fonts soon, God willing.
