He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
