The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 "Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!" 25 [We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, 26 We shall send the she-camel to try them. So watch them, and be constant. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 But they call their comrade and he took and hamstrung (her). 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold. 31 Surely We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 We let loose on all of them a squall of claystones, except for the house of Lot whom We saved at dawn 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 He had warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warnings. 36 Then they even solicited his guests from him, whereupon We blotted out their eyes, (telling them): “Now have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings.” 37 And certainly a lasting chastisement overtook them in the morning. 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 40
