The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
