The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
