Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
