The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
