In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
