The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
