The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, "Do you not fear?" 142 "I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you." 143 "Therefore fear Allah and obey me." 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said, "This is the she-camel - one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn." 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
