The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
