Remind them, therefore, that by the grace of your Lord you are neither a soothsayer nor possessed. 29 Or do they say: A poet, we wait for him the evil accidents of time. 30 Say thou: "Wait, [then,] hopefully; behold, I, too, shall hopefully wait with you!" 31 Does their reasoning prompt them to this, or they are a people rebellious? 32 Or do they say: "He himself has composed this [message]"? Nay, but they are not willing to believe! 33 But then, [if they deem it the work of a mere mortal,] let them produce another discourse like it - if what they say be true! 34 Were they created out of nothing, or are they their own creators? 35 [And] have they created the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no certainty of anything! 36 Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like? 37 Have they a stairway whereby they overhear? Then let their listener bring an authority manifest. 38 Or hath He daughters whereas ye have sons? 39 Or askest thou a hire from them so that they are with debt laden? 40 Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down? 41 Or seek they to ensnare (the messenger)? But those who disbelieve, they are the ensnared! 42 Or have they a deity other than Allah? Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. 43 And if they should see a portion of the heaven coming down, they would say: Piled up clouds. 44 So leave them till they encounter their Day in which they shall be thunderstruck. 45 The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped. 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 Wait patiently for the command of your Lord. We are watching over you. Glorify your Lord when you rise during the night 48 And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars. 49
