The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
