The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
