The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 But when they measure out to others or weigh out for them, they are deficient. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 unto a mighty day 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine, sealed, 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 a spring at which those drawn close to God will drink. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery); 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, 34 On high thrones, watching. 35 Will not the disbelievers then be duly recompensed for their laughing at the believers? 36
